Finding Barrambin
February - May 2023
Finding Barrambin is a series of public artworks and performances created by final year undergraduate students from QUT’s School of Creative Practice. Comprised of four major visual artworks, a suite of performances and many other media and activities, together the presentation at Green Heart Fair immersed spectators in the significant space of Victoria Park/Barrambin - allowing them to come to better know Barrambin and feel more present in that place now and in the future.
The project featured three art installations: Returning, Always Has Been, Always Will Be & Historical Contours of Barrambin. A further artwork The Perennial Land linked these works together. Accompanying these three installations were live interactive performances (Sky / Land / The Paint Project), a website, film, writing, and poetry that invites spectators to reflect upon the natural beauty, historical and Indigenous relevance of the land.
For this project I was production manager of a large multidisciplinary team helping to organise and execute the installation of the works, and interactive event on the day of the Green Heart Fair. I developed skills in marketing, budgeting, logistics, risk management, team management, and communication and problem-solving skills in the team environment. This opportunity was immensely worthwhile as I was able to develop useful systems applicable to any project while also learning soft skills applicable to any collaborative environment.
My contributions:
- Budget document - design layout and operation of comprehensive project budget
- Marketing management - signage (didactics, booth posters and wayfinding) design, organisation and installation, management of online promotion avenues
- Procedural systems - Gantt chart, planner, task assignment, files for production meetings
- Logistics - rostering of volunteers, organising logistical details (travel, access, timing) for install, event day and bump out, assisting with material transport, organising food for the team
- Proposal document development - gathering of visuals and copy and layout design for a comprehensive proposal made to council
